Chinese Delegation Visits PM

A Chinese delegation from the southern province of Yunnan met with Cambodia’s top leaders Tuesday to discuss investment opportunities, officials said.

The delegation was scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Hun Sen in his Takhmau residence Tuesday evening, a Chinese Embassy official said.

National Assembly President Prince Norodom Ranariddh, acting head of state in the absence of his father, King Norodom Sihanouk, met with the group earlier Tuesday at the Assembly. They discussed investment opportunities, particularly in infrastructure development, Reuters reported.

They also met with CPP President Chea Sim in what an adviser described as a courtesy call.

The two sides expressed a desire to develop a warm relationship and cooperation between the two countries, said Oum Sarith, an adviser to Chea Sim.

The delegation arrived Monday and is scheduled to leave Cambodia on Friday, a Chinese Embassy official said. China and ethnic Chinese have become one of Cambodia’s largest groups of investors in the past few years, particularly with major investments in the fast-growing garment industry.
