In a meeting with Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi on Wednesday, Prime Minister Hun Sen thanked China for its support of Cambodia and for the medical care that King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath regularly receive in Beijing.
Mr. Yang, who was China’s top diplomat from 2007 to 2013, pledged $144 million in aid to Cambodia during a meeting with Foreign Minister Hor Namhong on Tuesday.
Mr. Yang assured the prime minister Wednesday of China’s unwavering support to “improve people’s lives,” according to Mr. Hun Sen’s personal assistant, Eang Sophalleth, who briefed reporters after the two-hour closed-door meeting.
“His Excellency Mr. Yang told Samdech Techo [Hun Sen] that China will keep helping Cambodia in the areas of agriculture, water resources management, transportation, defense, law implementation, anti-corruption, and working together to improve people lives,” Mr. Sophalleth said, adding that Mr. Hun Sen “thanked [Mr. Yang] for taking care of the Queen Mother and His Majesty the King’s health.”
