Kim Yong Nam, who is seen as the No 2 politician in North Korea, will visit Cambodia next week at the invitation of King Norodom Sihanouk.
Kim, who is president of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of North Korea, will be granted an audience with the King during his July 17 to July 20 visit. Kim will also have talks with Prime Minister Hun Sen, Senate President Chea Sim and National Assembly President Prince Norodom Ranariddh.
A joint communique between Cambodia and North Korea will be issued at the end of the visit, according to a press statement.
King Sihanouk was close to the late North Korean leader Kim Il Sung and has a home in Pyongyang.
Last year in July, North Korean Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun visited Cambodia on a three-day visit.
Cambodia is one of the few countries that has both North Korean and South Korean embassies.
